You want document, not csv. A csv file is indeed for exporting to other databases on other machines (you could import a csv file into an Excel spreadsheet, for example). The document option will do the templating stuff and give you a nice long file with all selected records formatted according to your template. BTW, do not forget to add a couple blank lines at the end of the template so each record is separated from the next instead of running together.
