I was having the same problem, except that I was trying to write the email
address in manually.
I was receiving the same error message, too.
In my own case, what I finally figured out was that I was hitting the space
bar at the end of the address I had entered.
I can not be sure that this is your issue, but try to write the email
address and press the enter key as soon as you are done writing the address.
I hope I am making sense here, but this did work for me.
