One of the nice things about the braillenote is its ability to be used
silently in classes or meetings. The only problem is if something goes
wrong and it becomes necessary to reset the braillenote in a meeting.
That pleasant little tune that is played when starting up keysoft
doesn't seem all that long until your boss pauses his or her
presentation while it plays and plays and plays! You can avoid this
little embarrassment by changing the startup sound to something a little
more subtle.

This method requires a braillenote apex, a computer, and either a wired
or wireless network connecting them. First turn on the Apex, go to the
options menu, connectivity, and turn on your connection either wireless
or Ethernet. Now go to options menu, connectivity, active connection
details, and look for the ip address of your apex. This number is
written in computer Braille and in my case was 192.168.1.146. Remember
or write down this number as we will use it in a moment. Go ahead and
return to the main menu and move over to the computer.

On the computer press windows+r to get to the run dialog box. Type
"telnet a.b.c.d" where a.b.c.d is the address we obtained from the
braillenote earlier. You should get a ">" prompt. At this prompt type

cd windows

This will place you in the system directory on the braillenote where all
the files that make it work are stored. Be careful in this directory
because changing or deleting the wrong thing may force you to do a full
reset of your braillenote. Now type

copy "keysoft startup.wav" "keysoft startup2.wav"

This will back up the file we are going to rename so we don't lose it.
Next type

copy "keysoft click.wav" "keysoft startup.wav"

This command will copy the short unobtrusive click sound over the normal
keysoft startup sound. Now type exit and press enter to log off of the
braillenote.

When you do a regular soft reset of the braillenote you should just get
the click from now on. You can change the sound back by doing a hard
reset or by copying keysoft startup2.wav back over keysoft startup.wav
using the procedure above.
