Hi BrailleNote Listers, HumanWare staff and others,
I'm delighted to announce the third anniversary edition of the
BrailleNote PBWorks - version 7.3! Hosting updated articles and
more shortcuts, this release brings an upgraded browsing
experience that will help you find the needed information you
need. But first:
I'd like to take this time to give a word of thanks to those who
have given me countless suggestions and feedback throughout the
website's life. Back in 2008, I envisioned the site to be used
by a small number of students in a school district and didn't
imagine the impact the BrailleNote PBWorks would have on
BrailleNote users' experience using their units. Three years
later, the website hosts over fifty articles, a page full of
podcasts and even a dedicated command sumcary page - all possible
with your help, comments and suggestions. I'll take this
experience further with upcoming versions - which will see
KeySoft 9.1 features integrated (once it comes out) and better
way of selecting a desired information from anywhere on the site.
Once again, I thank you (the listers, HW staff and others) for
providing useful content for the site - and I'll improve upon it
through your comments. For those who want to find out about this
website, go to <http://braillenote.pbworks.com>.
So what does BrailleNote PBWorks 7.3 contain? Based on
foundations laid last year, coupled with the preview presentation
from January 24th, it now features table of contents for long
articles and integration with previews noted for KeySoft 9.1. As
of this release:
* General: Some long articles features a table of contents - a
list of anchors (same page links) to jump directly to a desired
section.
* Mission Backstage: This page has not been updated for a while.
In version 7.3, the site hosts table of contents, as well as
updated content to reflect Apex features.
* General FAQ's: For those who want to find out answers to
commonly asked questions, a dedicated site (linked from Front
Page) is availible to answer your questions raised on this list
and elsewhere. Some of the featured questions include hardware
questions, operating systems and other FAQ's (Frequently Asked
Questions).
* Front Page: In addition for moving directly to Main Menu, it
now contains shortcut for moving to Featured Items and to Contact
Information section of the page. Also, some old Featured Items
has been removed and an article on using Bluetooth headset has
been added.
* BrailleNote Command Summary: In addition to inclusion of table
of contents (one entry per application), it now hosts commands
used for file and folder management, Media Player/FM Radio and
Web Browser. Future versions will incorforate calculator and
database commands.
* Connectivity Dictionary: In light of KeySoft 9.1 preview notes,
the definitions for WPA2, TKIP and AES has been added with the
word that WPA2 is supported in KeySoft 9.1 onwards.
* FAQ's for Suppoot Hotline categories: The FAQ's for word
processing and storage management has been added (can be found
under Support Hotline Category View).
* Bluetooth headset or headphones: A short tutorial on using a
Bluetooth headset or headphones is now availible (Apex only).
* Podcast Radio: The audio on Tek Talkpresentation, a tutorial on
upgrading KeySoft and Apex Unboxing review is now availible.
And other spelling corrections, formatting changes and
integration of your suggestions.
Few additional things to keep in mind:
* Support for older units: As of BrailleNote PBWorks version 7.3,
BrailleNote Classic is no longer supported - no new content for
Classic will be added after this release. However, existing
content for those units will still be there.
* KeySoft 9.1: There will be a minor (yet huge) version after 7.3
that will be released after KeySoft 9.1 comes out (in February).
This version will be used to integrate KeySoft 9.1 features, as
well as user experiences using this version on the Apex.
I hope you learn something valuable through this release. If you
have any comments, please feel free to email me. Looking forward
to hearing from you - feedback, suggestions and other things to
make the site better. The URL to the site is
braillenote.pbworks.com. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Joseph S. Lee
