Robert, try connecting to wireless in the connectivity menu by
scanning for connections. Then, whenever you turn on wifi, use the
active connection details to see if it is connected, or just wait ten
seconds or so. I agree that it is annoying that it will not auto-start
wifi if it is not on. In my mind, if no connection is present, the
prompt to select one should appear. It is only if there is a
connection that it should not.
