Hey Alex,
Thanks for posting that info. I just downloaded the license file using the
login site with no problems, then got the installer file, again without a
hitch.
Installation of the license and 9.1 was a snap.
So, for the acid test, I then loaded a word file that I knew had some tables
in it. Looks good. Will try out the wi-fi after dinner.
Thanks again.
Tom

Humanware is pleased to release KeySoft version 9.1. This new version is
the first major update for the BrailleNote Apex family and it is free! It
does not require or use up a Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) count.
The version is available for download from our Web site at:
www.humanware.com/braillenote_support.
Activation is possible after installation of your product key. You can
download the product key from the Humanware license Management web site
at http://visit.humanware.com/e/3332/2011-02-10/589RI/105158832. Your
serial number and email address will be required.
What’s New in KeySoft 9.1?
Version 9.1.0 includes an array of new functionalities and important
improvements:
1. Improved access to a variety of Word documents
In KeyWord, access to more MS-Word documents has been greatly improved.
You can now open any kind of document created or edited on a PC with MS
Word 2007 or later and saved as "Word 97-2003 Document" (.doc).
Formatting and styles such as text justification, page orientation,
hyperlinks, tables of contents, tables, images, bullets and
auto-numbering are now accessible and better supported. New table
indicators have been added and properties such as bold and underline are
now properly presented and external hyperlinks can now be activated.
2. Vast new collections of electronic books at your fingertips
Take advantage of the vast new library options offered by KeyBook. We now
offer more formats, more choices, including both audio and text reading
material. KeyBook now supports Audio books from the National Library
Services for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. To play NLS books on
the Apex, you must first become a member of the NLS Bard services and
apply online to the NLS BARD web site to authorize your BrailleNote Apex.
Once you have authorized your BrailleNote or VoiceNote Apex, HumanWare
will contact you by email and send you the authorization. NLS audio books
can be downloaded by NLS patrons from the NLS BARD site to the PC. We are
continuing to work with NLS to directly download books from BARD to the
Apex without needing to use a computer.
With version 9.1, you can play unprotected EPUB books. EPUB is an
electronic text book format for commercial and public domain books. You
will find many unprotected EPUB books already available on the Internet
from sources such as Gutenberg.org, the Internet Archive (www.archive.org
), and Google. You may wish to refer to a blog from Google that announced
the launch of their EPUB repository of more than 1 million books. Visit:
http://visit.humanware.com/e/3332/ver-million-public-domain-html/589S2/105158832
In addition to the format 4 Audible books, the BrailleNote Apex will also
play the new Audible Enhanced books which are recorded in high fidelity
stereo and provide an enhanced listening experience, especially for books
with multiple narrators or books that include music. Make your choice of
whether to download format 4 or Enhanced Audio from the
My Library section of Audible.com. If you are not a member of Audible
you are invited to take advantage of a free trial including 1 free book.

3. Use your Apex as a Braille Display
Take advantage of the new possibilities of the Braille Terminal Mode.
With this version, both the BT and QT keyboards are fully supported. A
new JAWS driver is now available. Users who have JAWS version 12 will be
able to enter contracted Braille using the Apex’s Braille keyboard (BT
units). The driver supports 64-bit Windows operating systems. The scroll
wheel on the Apex BT is also supported.
4. Enjoy improved Ethernet and Wireless connectivity
With KeySoft version 9.1, connecting to your preferred network is simpler
and more efficient:
Wireless connections are easier to setup. Simply scan for wireless
networks and select the desired connection. All the settings are
automatically set to the appropriate values. When starting KeyWeb,
KeyMail or KeyChat, KeySoft will automatically connect to the Internet
using the best connection available, just like on a computer.
A Default Ethernet configuration is available. Just connect an
Ethernet cable and your connection to the Internet will be automatically
established.
Power saving mode is now available in the Wireless Options Menu.
In addition, you can now use more secured encryption, including Wireless
Security protocols WPA2-PSK, and WPA-Enterprise and WPA2-Enterprise are
now supported.
5.
Protect the access to your confidential Apex data
You can now setup password protection when you log into your
BrailleNote and VoiceNote Apex. In case you forget your password,
you can contact our Technical Support services to obtain a password
unlock file. User identification and device serial number will be
required.
6. Zip/unzip files
Zip file compression/decompression is available through a simple
interface integrated to the File Manager. This feature includes password
archive file protection as well.
7. More efficient email
In KeyMail, sending and receiving email is more efficient. We now use the
actual active connection to send and receive emails. If there is only one
account available, KeyMail saves steps as you do not need to select a
specific email account. Also, the size limit of automatic download of
email has been increased to 50 MB.
8. KeySync
A new KeySync version is available. It now supports Windows Vista and
Windows 7 (64-bits).
Version 9.1 also fixes important issues. For an extensive list of
improvements, please refer to the Release Notes document that will be
posted on our web site at:
http://visit.humanware.com/e/3332/port-braillenote-apex-software/589T6/105158832.
KeySoft 9.1 is supported by all BrailleNote Apex models. This version is
not supported by the mPower and PK models. The Humanware development team
continues to explore the migration of these features into the mPower and
PK platforms.
