percentagedisplay of a download
Well, at the presentation, they said they applied CE updates,
which
fixed the problem. I take this to mean that the new download
program
is from Microsoft, not Humanware. Still, you'd think it could
pop up
its own progress indicator...

Hi,
You are correct. From user's perspective, you are correct.
However, from system's perspective, there is a back story behind
it...
You see, when HW fixed the download size limit, I think they've
decided to write a new download engine. This engine is stored
on
ROM image as httpdownload.exe, a completely new program to
handle
download cases. This is the reason why you won't see a
percentage. If it was a dll, then we would have a different
story; however,
with this being an exe, it'd be hard to restore percentage
indicators.
I'll explain this on another post.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: bad move to have done away with percentage display of a
download
Hi Joseph
Your suggestion worked, at least partly! I downloaded a podcast
of 4 megs or so, however, checking the space on the flash disk
the numbers there didn't change. I think this is a most
unhelpful move to have done away with the percentage progress of
a download!
Cheers

Joseph
Can this be done as you explain here whilst downloading?
I feel this is a retrograde step, it's good to know how far one
is into a download and how it is progressing! Others opinions?

Hi,
That's correct - this is because it is now using a different
program to download the file. To really find out how much you
are downloading, I recommend downloading it to Flash Disk; that
way, if you access Options Menu/Support Information Mode, you'll
be able to find out free space with Flash (SPACE with I/READ
with
I). The indicator of download progress is that you'll get less
and less free space.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Joseph
I tried to download 9,1 having already installed 9,1. As it's
downloading I just have "please wait" on the display, no
percentage is displayed. Is this new for 9,1? If so, how is one
suppose to know how much of the download has been completed?
Pressing h with space doesn't give this information either!

Hi,
When I tried downloading it with 9.1, it worked well. I
downloaded the file to Downloads folder on Flash (for testing
purposes).

It is certainly ironic! I wonder if the apex could do it now
with
the
latest ks version, since one "under the hood" feature is the
elimination of a download file size.

Couldn't use the Apex to do this!
Thought some may find this interesting!
