Hi,
I'm glad to know that there is a way to disable Javascript
enhancements under KeyWeb. While it does help with loading sites
faster, it sometimes renders sites unusable if the scripting is
turned off. Coupled with recent trends in web content delivery
and for enhancing web browsing experience, I'd like to present
several suggestions that I hope could be useful for a future
build of KeySoft.
These days, several well-known websites use Flash engine for
delivering high-quality audio and video, with more and more
devices supporting this technology. In fact, there is a word
that Windows CE 6 does have facility to support Flash plug-in for
web browsers. Although it might consume memory in the short
term, to stay ahead and to keep up with current trends, I believe
a light yet useful Macromedia Flash driver could be a useful
feature to add.
Second, some newer Javascript commands are not supported. This
is crucial when doing a number of important or leisure activities
on the Internet, such as games and other enhanced Javascript
functions. To foster greater website compatibility while keeping
the familiarity with KeySoft intact, I view that support for
newer Javascript functionality would be important.
Third, some websites report that BrailleNote's web browser is
no longer supported - in fact, anyone who uses Internet Explorer
6 series (including one designed for Windows CE) will see this
message on these sites. In other cases, a website does not
render well when viewing mobile edition, but when using desktop
version of the site, it works, indicating user agent issue. I
hope to see an option for changing user agents, as well as
updates to the browser engine to keep up with changes in browsing
environment.
Lastly, I would like to suggest some enhancements to the last
menu item under Internet Options Menu to not only toggle
Javascript, but also toggle the above enhancements and features,
if implemented. Thus, the user would be able to toggle
scripting, Flash and other advanced browsing settings and root
out possible website compatibility problems using one central
location.
I do understand that some of these suggestions might be hard to
implement, but with help from users and to stay ahead, I believe
these features could be done in a reasonable timeframe. I hope
to see enhanced web browsing experiences with KeyWeb in the
future - to incorporate latest innovations in web content
delivery while keeping simplicity aspect of KeyWeb interface.
Thanks for your considerations.
Sincerely,
Joseph S. Lee
