I own both an Apex and a BrailleSense Plus. The word processor in the Apex has more features than the BSP, such as formatting commands, foreign languages and fonts. Documents load much faster on the Apex. Unicode characters are supported on the Apex, but not on the BSP. The calculator on the Apex has the ability to work with fractions but the BSP has not.

I cannot compare internet capabilities because I can't use either the Apex or the BSP with Comcast.

I cannot use my printer with either the Apex or the BSP because it requires software installation.

I should be able to use my embosser with the BSP because it comes with a usb to parallel adapter or is it parallel to usb adapter.

I can use my BSP as a braille display with WindowEyes, but the Apex's ability is broken.

I can read Audible books with the BSP, but I haven't succeeded with the Apex.

I can create bookmarks in any audio book with the BSP, but I cannot do so with the Apex. Only Daisy books have this feature on the Apex.

I can change the speed of any audio book with the BSP but not with the Apex. I can only change the speed for Daisy books on the Apex.

I can create all day appointments with the Apex, but not with the BSP.

The qwerty keyboard is more responsive on the Apex. The qwerty keyboard on the BSP is sluggish.

It is more convenient for me to use the media player on the BSP than the Apex because the BSP has front keys for play, pause, stop, fast forward, rewind and record. The Apex doesn't.

I can do more things with the Apex's front thumb keys than I can with the scrolling wheels on the BSP.

I can use the BSP as an external drive with my PC but I can't use my Apex.

More grades and braille codes are supported on the Apex than the BSP. This is because the BSP has specific models for specific countries.

I can read more seamlessly with the Apex than I can with the BSP.

Last, but not least, I prefer Keynote Gold speech to Elloquence, but the speech sounds more trebble on the Apex than the mPower did. I don't know why because the mPower's speaker was much smaller than the Apex's.

When I went to school in the late 50's 60's and early 70's, the only writing equipment were the Hall or Perkins brailler, the slate and stylus and the manual or electric typewriter. There was no internet. Math was done with the brailler or the abacus. There was a braille calculator but I never saw it or used it. The talking calculators came out later. All of the calendars were paper. Address books were made with paper.

I would like to see continued improvements in both my notetakers, but we've come a long way since the days when there were no notetakers or PC's.

Subject: [Braillenote] Apex is slower than mPower

Hi Will
I think it's rather disappointing that HW is in denial about the Apex doing many things, such as downloading emails and browsing slower than the MPower. This will be hard to fix if they won't admit it!

Hey,
Actually I somewhat agree with you. I like the Apex because of
Keysoft, and how easy the user interface is, but actually, the
apex has always seemed concidderably slower than my More Power.
I got one for chrismas, and just like you, I was kind of
dissapointed when I saw the slow and sluggish keyweb, although
tast ben fixed in KS 9.1, but you have to recet the thing so much
more than you do wea%th the More Power. I was very disapointed
that they didn't add word 2007 and 2010 support, although the
Braille display thing is actually pretty cool. I pair it up to
my Ipod touch via blutetooth, and I can do everything from my
Apex.
However, no offense, I seriously think the BRAILLE Sense Plus and
the On Hand beats the BN and packmate both.
After all, what other notetaker has a built in twitter cliant?
Huh? I must say though, the apex has opened up doors for me,
especially the VGA support. Now, with me being a middle school
student, a teacher can look over my shoulder and view what I'm
doing in real time.
Also, the built in wifi saves me a card to keep track of.
Hey, I kind of wish they'd add someding like a keysoft app store
called keyapps where you could go and buy apps designed for
keysoft. I actually think the apex has that potential.
Just some thoughts.
Will

I have been rather disappointed with the Apex, given the
potential it isn't fulfilling.
I have also an impression that a number of people have either had
their Apex replaced or sent in for repair.
Is it fair to ask people to respond to this?
Joseph, Olivia and myself are 3 I'm certain have had this happen
to them.
