Peter's April Fool joke reminded me of the time someone recorded a notice in
an audio magazine for the blind saying Freedom Scientific was coming out
with a notetaker called the MoonLite which would allow blind people to read
and write Moon Type. The notice was so well done that some people actually
called up FS to find out whether or not it was true! I found the whole
thing to be hilarious, but Freedom Scientific didn't find it funny.
For those who have never heard of it, Moon Type is a raised-letter alphabet
system for the blind. It was a read-only system. It isn't used here in the
U.S., but the UK still uses it. It was popular with people who had lost
their sight late in life and didn't know braille.
