This will silence the alarm, but it will not cancel the appointment if it is recurring. That is, if this is a daily appointment (or any other recurence schedule) canceling it one day will not affect it the next day, or when ever it is set to go off again. Also, you do not need to turn on the bn, just hit backspace-enter while the alarm is going off.
