Hi, List,
I just wanted to suggest that when you are describing the thumb keys that
you please use the names previous, back, advanced and next. There are three
ways to set up the thumb keys. The default setting is the righthand set.
The second set is lefthanded. The third way is custom set, where you decide
for yourself which thumb key will do what. Each set has its own position
for each key. In the righthand set, the keys from left to right are:
previous, back, advance, next. In the lefthand set, the keys from left to
right are: next, advance, back, previous. In the custom set I have created
for myself, the keys from left to right are: back, previous, next, advance.
A custom set can be anything you want. Using the terms "outer and "inner"
is not a good idea because the outer and inner keys can be customized. But
using the four names back, previous, next and advance describes the key
itself, not the position of the key.
An example of this is braille. If you went by the position of the dots,
writing braille with a slate and stylus would have dots 1, 2, 3, on the
right, 4, 5, 6 on the left. Writing on the brailler would have dots 1, 2, 3
on the left and 4, 5, 6 on the right. The slate and brailler use the same
six dots but a different position. But if you describe a cell by the dot
numbers, the cell will look the same, whether it is written on the slate or
the brailler. The cells are dependent on the dot numbers, not the tool you
use to braille them.
I hope I'm making some sense.
I thank everyone who writes articles for the time they take to do it. My
suggestion is meant to improve them, not to criticize.
