There are four modes: automatic, reading, editing and layout. The
automatic mode switches between reading and editing. The reading mode shows
no format markers except new lines. The editing mode shows all of the
format markers, but you must put your cursor on some of them for them to
appear. The layout mode will show the appearance line by line and paragraph
by paragraph and everything else the way you have set it up. The layout
menu is confusing to me and I don't like it.
