The iPhone is much more than a phone. Like other smartphones nowadays, it is a pda with a phone built in. It can play music, run applications, and so on, and any accessible application that works with voiceOver will be displayed in braille on an apex. From a cell phone standpoint, this access lets you read and write text messages in braille, manage contacts, see caller ID information in braille, and so on.
