Hi,
Yes - that's the key combination. In this case, you don't have to backup
those program files - the reset will not remove Flash Disk data, only data
stored on ks disk (RAM Disk). The way it works is quite complex (which I'll
reserve another time to explain this reset further).
For other listers: This dialog means that a program might have done
something wrong to "anoy" the operating system (the system software). Think
of this way: Suppose you are doing crowd control at a huge event and the
crowd starts to jump over the fence to get ahead of others. You find out and
say to the offenders, "hey, get back in line, you cannot jump over it."
Similar story here: the program might have tried to access somewhere that it
does not have access to (often called page fault or segmentation error), or
the program did something that either the processor didn't understand or the
CPU was busy or can't handle the program's instructions at that time. In
this context, I'd say that both hardware and software is involved in this
"struggle" - hardware, because there might be something going on with the
processor when this occured (too busy, didn't understand KeySoft's
instructions, etc.), and software, since the program (Keysoft, services
manager, etc.) might have done something odd enough that the OS understood
it as an error with the offending application and shut it down. But the
"real" way of finding the culprit is to what's called "isolate the cases" -
to see if it occurs with a particular unit, a particular KeySoft version, a
combination of both or something else (which I think would be a proper
reason for contacting HW Tech Support).
For more info on this matter, have a look at this entry from How Stuff
Works:

Hope the explanation was helpful.
Cheers,
JL

Hi, I do have these, they will need to be backed up if this is
the case. OK do I just back up the folders on a card or hard
drive? (well, flash drive, hard disk) These being the oxford and
nemeth folders? Oh and after Friday I'll have a couple months to
experiment... Last day of school. But, offtopic. And, I am
just preparing in case I need to do the rom thing.
Thanks,
Josh
PS: Just to review: The rom is the reset with dots 1-2-3, right?

Hi,
I understand. It happened to me before (not anymore). A warm
reset fixes it
temporarily; a more "long term" fix is trying Registry (Clear
Settings)
Reset (Reset with DOTS 4-5-6/JKL) to reinitialize the settings to
see what
happens. If that does not fix it, deleting temporary Internet
files and/or
doing Clean (ROM) Reset could be useful to reload KeySoft from
ROM (remember
the warning given by me and others on this particular reset) -
clean the
temp files first, and do the reset if and only if: you still
experience
problems and have program installation files for dictionary, GPS
and Nemeth
tutorial.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi, yes, I can indeed recall the names of the programs. They
were: servicesd.exe, (I think that's how it's spelled) and
keysoft.exe. I was using the apps normally, just doing the usual
stuff (keymail, it was a reply to the sender only prompt that I
hit no to and the dialog came up and in Keyweb it was just a
standard website address prompt which I typed a website into and
hit enter and it came up. This has also occurred with a zip file
a friend of mine sent via a dropbox link, when I tried to
download it (selected the folder where it would go and file name)
and hit enter it popped up. Oh and in keychat it'll come up too.
I guess you could say it's random, like me :)
Thanks,
Josh

Hi,
What executable names were mentioned in the dialog? Can you
recall what
exactly you were doing when this occured?
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi all,
The subject kind of says it, but I will elaborate.
When I am in certain ks programs, doesn't matter which,
KeyMail, KeyWeb etc, I will get a "fatal application error
dialog" that will say something like: (app) (where app is the
name of the program) .exe has encounterdd a sirious error and
must shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program
vendor. Application: (app name again) and then I think some long
code. This is happening more and more frequently and it is
starting to... annoy me. I will be using the app normally and
it just comes out of nowhere. Is there anything I can do about
this. Oh and it will even happen with ks itself. What can I do
about it, if anything? Is it my unit? The software? A bug?
Thanks,
Josh
