The Braille Sense OnHand from HIMS-Inc is a device similar in function and size
to the PK. The OnHand does have more up to date hardware, can stream audio
unlike the PK and has built in WiFi also unlike the PK.

As for my own PK; yes, it did lock up completely, doing so only a day or two
after I had purchased the upgrade to the V 2010 GPS and SMA. The unit would
turn on, but it would hang and just wouldn't boot up, although it would let me
know on the Braille display when the battery was low, as well as when the unit
was turned off.

You all might recall that I had purchased this unit used, after selling my
original PK, and that there were several dots, including the dot one in cell
one, that were very often showing up quite faintly. So, what with those dots
being so annoying, the PK being over four years old, not to mention being
pretty much useless once it had the problem with the GPS, I just decided I
didn't want to put any money into it to get it repaired. So, I sent it to
Sendero, and they very nicely let me apply my SMA's that I had just purchased
for the PK as additional ones for my Apex.

I really do like my OnHand; but, the PK, even though I no longer use one due to
the things I've mentioned in this and my prior message, I still kind of feel a
bit of excitement and wonder nearly every time I think or hear about the unit.
I mean, such a small and portable device that did so much, and had a Braille
display to boot.
