Hi folks,
Quite an interesting aray of questions thesedays. I'll take some time to
answer these questions in a detailed fashion:
* Cleaning mode: Yes, Apex sort of has "cleaning mode" - in fact, all BN
family has them. The trick is what JD has mentioned - going to Support
Information Mode, then pressing X for Exercise. This allows BN to raise pins
on the braille display, which is useful for cleaning the display and
checking for display problems. Besides exercising the display, Support
Information Mode has useful commands such as checking battery status,
formatting SD cards and so on. For more info regarding this area, you might
want to check out an extensive tour written by one of our members on a site.
* Utilities: As of now, the programs Alex wrote is the most advanced
development we (the user programmers) can do on Apex and other BN family.
The last step we need is a set of development tools to be released for
KeySoft so we can write games and other utilities for people (I have several
of those in mind as future projects). Z-code games are useful, but since the
interpreter was created for games, I see no "real" use for it except running
programs written in a special language.
* Cleaning: I personally use a dry cloth when cleaning the unit - especially
the display pins.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph
