I haven't had to send my Apex back to HW, so I can't speak to that issue.  But, 
on the two occasions I have contacted them via email, they have responded 
quickly, meaning within a day, if not the same day.  And, they answered my 
follow-up question just as timely.

I didn't realize there was a discount for purchasing a two year warranty, as I 
purchased the one year one through Sendero a few months back.  And, although I 
may not ever use the warranty, knowing how potentially expensive these units 
can be to fix, I normally do try to keep the warranty up to date, at least for 
the first few years until I start thinking about selling the product.
