Hi all,
Apparently people who receive messages from this list in one
daily message (digest mode) sometimes inadvertently include the
entire digest in their replies.
I'm thinking that if those who get separate messages receive such
a reply they then get the entire digest too (I'm not sure about
this though).
And if you reply to such a message and "include the original"
you're resending the entire digest to the list once again.
This is not much fun especially if you receive the list messages
in digest mode. I find that everything exceeding 50 pages in
Gmail is cut off. I don't know whether this is a Gmail thing or
the way the list is set up.
The reason I'm writing this message now is that I've seen
relatively many "reposts" of digests recently. The latest digest
contained 12 messages; the first two were by Sarah telling us who
reads her email to her. Each of those messages (they're beginning
to look like automatic replies) contained 3 digests - a digest
within a digest within a digest - and consequently the entire
digest (50 (web) pages in Gmail) was made up of those two
messages and the digest reposts. The other ten messages which
promised to be more interesting were not there.
Obviously it's up to us "digest mode" people not to create the
problem in the first place. However, I kindly request that
everybody make sure you're not reposting digests to the list by
including it in their replies. If the message you're replying to
seems much longer than you expected please check whether there's
a digest in there.
