Alex,
That was a very informative post.
I'll probably have to buy something in the future because this PC is getting
old, so I like the comparison.
However, I have some comments, too. I use WindowEyes as my screenreader and
the Apex BT will work fine with it. But the qwerty model is broken, thanks
to HumanWare, and most of the hot keys won't work. You can read computer
braille or contracted braille with it and the bt hot keys will work.
I have never felt comfortable using A PC for word processing but I like the
email and web browsing.
Since I already have WE, I wouldn't have to pay anything for a screenreader
if I chose to buy a new Windows PC. I could also use programs like Duxbury
for Windows, which would save me another expense. I'm not sure about the
rest of the programs I currently use, but I would suppose an upgrade would
make them useable in a new PC, however, I have heard that one program, the
ONLINE BIBLE, is not as accessible as it used to be.
But if I bought a Mac, I'd have to learn a whole new operating system and
I'd have to buy another version of Duxbury and ONLINE BIBLE etc. Besides,
the idea of reading uncontracted braille when I can read contracted braille
doesn't appeal to me at all. There are times I switch to uncontracted
braille, but most of the time I want to read contracted braille.
So, when I buy a new PC, it will probably be another Windows PC.
