It is a way to get cheaper upgrades. You buy an SMA and it gives you
two upgrades for the price of one. Then, when an upgrade comes out,
you can download it, and it takes one count off your SMA. You can
store up as many counts as you want, but every two additions cost you
money. Free upgrades, like ks9.1 was, do not take an SMA count. Paid
ones like 9.2 do, though, and you can't buy an sma to upgrade to a
version that's already out. So if you had no sma, you'd need to pay
for 9.2, then you could use your sma (assuming you bought one as well)
on 9.3, or 10, or whatever they call the next paid release.
