Hi,
Here are some answers to commonly asked questions about upgrading KeySoft (which will be posted to our site later tonight):

1. What is the best method for installing a license for Apex?
It is best to install the license for an upgrade before installing the upgrade itself. Also, it is advised to put the hwl and hwi on roots of different drives to avoid conflicts.

2. If I install the license for a particular version, do I have to install the license again if a patch comes out? No. You would install the license only once - provided that the upgrade is SMA based upgrade.

3. Is it possible to downgrade?
Yes and no. If the version prior to current version requires separate installing of a license, then no. Yes, if the previous license is valid and is not removed. The latter case applies when downgrading from 9.2 to 9.1, as the license for 9.1 would not be removed.

4. How do I enter my serial number at the license page?
One of the prompt from license page (lic5se.humanware.com) is serial number for your unit. Type the serial number as 650320nnnnnn where the six n's represent last six digits of your serial number. For instance, if your serial number was 123456, type 650320123456.

5. What is the best storage medium to use when upgrading?
It is recommended (by users) to use internal Flash Disk when upgrading i.e. put the hwi at the root of Flash Disk. SD card would be another choice; be careful when using USB flash drives, as some of them causes checksum error (stage 3 of installation) when attempting to install the upgrade. If checksum error happens, prepare an SD card with the hwi file for the upgrade and press reset to restart the upgrade process.

6. Technical: What really happens during upgrade process on the Apex?
The upgrade of the Apex is divided into four stages:
1. Obtaining the necessary files. When KeySoft detects and upgrade file, it'll prompt the user to reset the device. 2. After warm reset and after user said "yes" to install the upgrade, the upgrade files stored within hwi archive would be copied to Temp folder on Flash Disk. During this stage, Apex displays, "extracting." 3. After extraction is complete, KeySoft Installer comes up and performs the following:
A. Installs bootloader.
B. Installs configuration for the hardware.
C. Checks to see if valid KeySoft image is present on the extracted folder.
D. Installs KeySoft image.
E. Erases extracted files from Flash Disk.
4. After the upgrade is done, KeySoft installs manuals and language files to system drive - and it is done.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph
