Hi,
For that, be sure to check the name given to the Apex. In order
for iOS to find it, you need to name your Apex as "apexnnnnnn"
(without quotes) where "n" represents last six digits of the
serial number. For instance, if the serial number is 123456,
then the name for the Apex should be "apex123456" otherwise iPod
would not find it.
For best practice, it is recommended that, when you pair it for
the first time, locate the pair button. Once you locate the pair
button, try pairing
both on the second try (type 0000 quickly, then tap pair button,
if I got Alex's description right).
I'll write a text version of Alex's tutorial by next week (if my
schedule permits) unless HW has specific instructions on their
site.
Cheers,
Joseph

I notice that it only tries to pair a few times. Then the phone
stops
looking for the apex... The searching button is "dimmed" and
iphone says
it's "in progress."

Yes. Technically, pairing is never lost, it is just that the
apex is
not in terminal mode. This is made clear when you go to type
something
on the iPod and no keyboard appears, because the iPod still
thinks the
terminal is active. Deactivating it involves turning off
bluetooth on
one device or the other or, and far easier, just locking then
unlocking the iTouch with the apex not in terminal mode. If no
terminal is found when the iTouch first searches, it won't pair.

Hi Alex
So are you saying that you exit terminal mode and say read some
emails in the Apex's in-box, then go back to terminal mode and
pairing resumes?

Exactly. I have only had to re-pair a few times in the nearly
12
months I have had my iPod, and much of that was due to iOS
updates.
However, after updating to iOS 5.0.1 just now, I had no
problems,
so
even that occasional inconvenience seems to have gone.
Mostly, I enter terminal mode and then unlock my iPod, and it is
ready
to go. The iPod only searches for displays when it is unlocked,
not
all the time, so you have to have the apex ready before using
the
iPod. Once that is done, though, you can do anything you want
on
the
apex and re-enter terminal mode when you want to keep using the
iPod
(or iPhone or iPad).

Hi Randi,
Using IOS 5 on the iPhone and Keysoft 9.2, your pairing will
stay unless you
have to do at least a 4-5-6 reset.
That doesn't happen often, but if it does, you may have to pair
your devices
again.

I just tried again... I really want to get this to work...
Once you get it
paired, do you have to do it again often? I'd rather use
braille
if I can
get it working...

That's too bad, as it is really handy and lets you almost have
two
computers at once. If you ever want to try again, let me know.
The
process isn't too hard, you just have to be quick with the
pairing
code and, possibly, restart the phone.

about
pairing the apex for now...
Thanks for the help though.

The name change is for using the phone as a hotspot for web
access. If
it is terminal functionality you're after, look at this page:
http://www.humanware.com/en-usa/support/braillenote_apex/braillen
ote_apex_as_a_braille_display
There is no need to change the name if you want to use the apex
as a
terminal.

Hello all,
I just purchase my first Iphone a few days ago and want to pair
it with
the
apex bt.
I saw a post recently from someone who said she had to change
the name
of
the phone because of some special character. Is this something
that
needs
to
be done just if you get a new phone, or is it something I need
to do
too
for
my first one?
Thanks for your help. Any other suggestions/hints are
appreciated.
