Hello -
My name is Andrea Damitio, and I am from Olympia, Washington. I just subscribed to this list at the invitation of Joseph, and he had suggested that I briefly tell you a bit about myself as a newcomer to the list. I bought my first ever note taker, the APEX Voice Note with QWERTY keyboard, at the ACB Convention this past July in Reno. I am somewhat newly blind, and began to realize at convention, just how handy note takers could be. However, I'm a bit embarrassed to say, after so much excitement to receive my new device, I haven't done much more than take it out of the box, and put some loc dots on the keys, as I'm a bit bewildered as to where to begin. I was thrilled to see that Accessible World was offering a webinar on the Braille/Voice Note last night, and was so glad to be able to participate. I learned so much about the device, and what kind of features that it offers, along with some great resources on how to get started. I was surprised to see just how much that it can do, beyond just taking notes! One of the first things that Joseph, whom I met at the webinar last night, suggested that I do, is to get involved in this list serve, so I could hook up with others that have the same unit, and configuration that I do. I plan on going through the User's Manual this weekend to get started, and checking out some of the tutorial podcasts as well. I'm fairly computer literate, as I have been a Windows user, among some other specific software, for the past 25 years, and am just finishing up some private tutoring, to get me back to where I used to be, by learning to use the software that I was proficient on, by using JAWS. I'm hopeful that my learning curve doesn't take a lot of time, as I catch on pretty quickly, but I would ask any of you that have the same unit that I do, to please feel free to offer any words of wisdom, and resources that might have helped you along the way. I have included my email address in my signature line below, and would encourage anyone that is willing, and interested, to contact me either through the list, or off-line via my personal email. I look forward to getting to know all of you, and want to extend my thanks up front, for your taking the time to read this, and for your consideration in regards to my request. May you all have a wonderful, warm, safe, and family filled Thanksgiving, and enjoy all of the friends and family that you choose to spend the holidays with! Sincerely - Andrea J Andrea M.
