Hi Joseph
Okay, can the Apex support the 256 GB you mention here?

Subject: re: [Braillenote] thumb drive 2 tb??

Hi,
Any storage device has a maximum capacity that it can use. This
maximum capacity depends on how much capacity the storage
device's hardware supports, and the port or reader to which this
device is attached to can support. For instance, despite
availibility of larger SD cards, mPower cannot support them
simply because the SD card reader doesn't recognize HC cards.
As for the whole business of terabytes and thumb drives, it's
just a calculation that some people did years ago. In words, up
to 2000 GB of data can be stored on a USB thufb drive; however,
producing such large capacity drive is expensive. At this point
(as of 2011), the largest capacity USB drive in existence is 256
GB. In case of external hard drives, there are ones which can
store up to tens of thousands of gigabytes (the largest known is
8 TB).
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] SD cards for MPower

Hi,
I think a more flexible option would be using a large USB thumb
drives so both Apex and mPower can read from this drive. The max
capacity supported on CF is about 2 TB Terabyte) - that is, about
2000 GB. As of now, the largest card
that's "bound" to work with mPower is 64 GB, and largest "known"
SD card for mPower is 4 GB (no HC). For Apex, the largest
"shown" SD card capacity is 32 GB, but some people say (and since
the SD documentation say) that
up to 2000 GB would work. As to the whole story behind this
scenario, we'll just say that the smart guys figured that
limiting to 32 GB was enough for some time.
Cheers,

Yes, the mPower will not support HC (high capacity) sd cards.
You can
find 4gb sd cards that are not hc, but they are rare.
The mPower supports cf cuards of up to 32gb, but there is a huge
difference between sd and cf cards. Just because the mPower can
use
large capacity cf cards does not mean it can use similarly sized
sd
cards; they are two different animals.

the
only reason I know this is because I have a 16 gig compact flash
