An alert to any web page writers out there! I just discovered something I was unaware of until I had to run a virtual fine-toothed comb over a playlist created by one of my utilities. I'm not sure if regular computers do this too, but the bn
certainly does.
If you're going to write any text to the document, and you're not sure if the text will contain groups of two or more spaces, use an html <pre>, text, </pre> tag sequence. If you don't, any group of spaces will get converted to just one space. I
was playing a playlist created by my shuffler utility, and I noticed one of the files hadn't played. I went back and looked very carefully for differences between the name of the file that should have played, and the file my playlist was looking
for, and it turned out that the file had two spaces in part of its name, and the playlist was looking for just one space. I went back and fixed my shuffling utility to create those preformatted text sequences, and that fixed the spacing issue. Not
funny!
Speaking of the Shuffler, I'm working on adding a search feature that will check the boxes next to any files that match a string typed by the user into a text box. This should help the user find and mark files to create shuffling and/or repeating
playlists when there are a lot of files in the original playlist. I'm also working on code that will get rid of the longest part of all file paths that is the same. This will only effect how the playlist is displayed to the user while they are
creating a shuffling and/or repeating playlist. When the playlist is created, the paths will be fully displayed. This should help the user more quickly find the files they're looking for.
As an example, if all the files are in the same folder, the form will only display the filenames. If the playlist looks for files in, say, sd card slash music slash new age, and sd card slash music slash soft rock, then the form won't display the
part of the file paths that say file colon slash slash sd card backslash music backslash. But when the page is reloaded via the link at the bottom of the form, the playlist will contain all sections of the file paths.
I'll let everyone know when I've finished and tested these new features for
the Shuffler. Have a good day.
