Hello everyone,
I'm pleased to announce the release of version four of my playlist shuffler
utility. The new version has a few changes, and a powerful new feature.
I developed this utility for use on the bn. As of this writing, it isn't possible to use the media player to shuffle a playlist, nor to have all or some of the files play through a certain number of times. My application will allow you to do
this. It consists of a template in keyword text document format. There are instructions inside the template, at the top. These instructions will help you save an unchanged copy of the document in htm format. That new file will contain the
instructions for using the application.
Here is what the program can do. Since the application requires you to modify a template for each playlist you wish to work on, each version of it will remember its own playlist. You have the option of either viewing your playlist as the program
remembers it, or going to a form where you can modify how your playlist plays.
In the form, you can select as many or as few files from your playlist as you'd like, and have the set play a number of times you specify. There is also an option for randomly shuffling the set of files each time they play through. Finally, you
have the ability to create a version of your playlist which will work on a Victor Stream, if you have one. If you create a playlist that refers to the $VRMusic folder on an sd card which has been formatted for use by your Stream, the Shuffler will
automatically detect the reference, and reformat the playlist so that your Stream can play it. This works both at the "show original" and "modify playlist" parts of the application.
Here are some notes on the release of this, the newest version of the program.
I've changed the Stream playlist creation part of the utility so that it asks you if you want to reformat your playlist so that the Victor Stream can understand the playlist. (This only happens if a certain file path string is detected in the
playlist. If there are no file paths that lead to the Stream's music folder on the sd card, you won't get the prompt because there are no Stream file paths to reformat.) I gave the shuffler a prompt rather than leave the process automatic because
it's possible the user might still want to play the playlist on their bn, and not their Stream.
In the form where you create a shuffling and/or repeating playlist, I've added new code that cuts off the longest part of all file paths that is similar. As an example, if all the files in the playlist are in the same folder, the program will
detect this, and the checkboxes will be displayed with just the filenames. This makes it much easier to find the files you want to select for shuffling or repetition. When the modified playlist is loaded, the playlist will be normal. The paths are
only shrunk within the form that allows you to modify your playlist.
And last, but most exciting of all, I've added search capability within that same form. You can now enter a search string in a text input, and hit the search button. All files that match your search will either be checked automatically, or
they'll be unchecked. You decide what happens with a checkbox between the text input and the search button. As an example, if you search for the string .mp3, all mp3 files in your playlist will be checked or unchecked during the search. If you
type the word dream in the text box, all entries in your playlist that have the word dream will be acted upon. Very powerful new feature, indeed.
If you'd like a copy of my utility, go to www.bnusers.info, and select the Program Library. There, you will find a zip file which contains my utilities, and a guide that describes how to play the hidden "playtime" game on your bn. I wrote the
guide over a year ago, but I have recently added a copy of the file in UEB Braille for those not familiar with the U S braille code.
Have a wonderful day!
