Hi Keith,

If your students' books have page numbers written in them, I
would do what you suggest; that is, doing the find command (space
with f on the BT) and searching for the page number. The find
command will also work if the teacher reads a part of the text of
a book or document and asks the students to go to that section of
the text. For example, the teacher might read a subheading such
as "Introduction." The student can then open the book, do a find
command, and search for Introduction. If this will work, then it
doesn't matter if you open the book in the wordprocessor
(Keyword) or the book reader (Keybook,) as this command will work
in both programs. There apparently is a command to go to a page
in the book reader (kind of like the Victor Stream's "go to page"
function,) but I don't know the keystroke. Would anyone else on
the list know this command? By the way, I am in 8th grade,
totally blind, and use my BrailleNote Apex for virtually
everything in my classes, so if you or your students have any
questions about using the BrailleNote in the classroom, please
feel free to email me or to give my email address to your
students. My email address is [email protected]. Hope
this helps!

Subject: [Braillenote] Best way to read in class

Hi,

Recently I obtained a few Mpowers for my students. They need to
be able to
find their spot quickly in books as the class reads them. Is it
better to
have them read the books in the book reader or in Key Word.

I have been asking them to use Key Word because they can drop a
string such
as xxx to mark their spot when done reading and easily search for
their last
save the next day. But there must be a better way.

When the teacher says open your book to page 172, I have the kids
do a space
126 and jump to that page then search for a string of words where
they will
begin reading. This is often not fast enough. How do you do it?
Are there
advantages to using the book reader that I just don't know?

Are there any pod casts on using the BN in the classroom that
would be
helpful? These are 3rd and 6th graders.

Appreciate your thoughts and tips.

Keith
