Hi list,
Some things I'd thought I'd throw out based on what you said about the two devices. One of the major factors is how many cells the braille display has. Because the PK has 18 cells and the apex has 32 that makes the devices different in weight and width. However, if one were to purchase an 18 cell apex, one would be reminded quite a lot of the PK's portability and lightness, accept the apex might be a tad heavier.
Although I don't have the dimensions, just thought I'd clarify.
Will

Subject: [Braillenote] Re size of PK compared to Apex

Hi, the PK is smaller then the Apex however it would have to be a big pocket to fit it. I don't know the exact measurements but I have sent this to the
list so maybe someone else knows.

I will do my best here. I have just lain my PK on top of my Apex, when the Apex is lying with the keyboard ready to type and the PK is side on it covers half of the Apex with about a quarter hanging over the back of the Apex. The Apex is a little heavier then the PK. When I got my PK it was definitely allot lighter then the Braillenote classic that I was using at
the time.

I hope this answers at least some of your questions and hopefully someone
else might know the exact measurements of both machines.

| Hi. Are you saying that the pk is smaller then the apex? If it is
| then how much smaller? Can it really go in your pocket?

|
| Hi, as far as I know the Apexs with the 18 cells is no smaller
| then the ones
| that have 32 cells. I haven't actually compaired them myself. I
| have a
| braillenote PK which only has 18 cells but it is designed as a
| smaller unit.
| The PK stands for Pocket but I'm not sure if they are still
| making them or
| doing any more upgrades for them. I love the PK because it is
| smaller and I
| have just been lucky that I could afford both a PK and an a Apex,
| the apex
| was brought with some money my grandparents left me in their
| will.
|
| Sorry I'm not been much help with the answer to your question but
| maybe
| another list member might be more helpful.

||
|| Hi, I have used both a 32 and a 18 cell braillenote at times.
|| You don't
|| have to do anything different to the files it just means the
|| people with the
|| 18 cells will have to press the advance button more times then
|| the 32 cells
|| people will have to. It also doesn't make any differance if it
| is
|| in keyword
|| or Keybook.
||
|| the only thing I would look at is what they have the setting in
|| braille
|| options in the option menu for showing new lines. I have mine
| set
|| as indent
|| one cell but there is a number of options there for you to
| choose
|| from.  The
|| default is a symbol that might confuse people if they haven't
|| seen it
|| before.
||
|| Hope this helps,

||
||
||| Is it necessary to adjust the line length when saving a file
| on
|| the
|| computer
||| to be read on a Braille Note? We have students using 32 cell
|| and 18 cell
||| note takers and I am not sure if I need to do anything
|| different to adjust
||| for the different displays.
|||
||| Does it matter if we are using the Book Reader vs. Key Word?
|||
||| Thanks,
