Hi list. I have found a way to enable telnet access on the BrailleNote apex. (this post is mostly meant for advanced users)
Warning: Use at your own risk!
For those of you who don't know what telnet is, it is essentially a way of remotely running command prompt on the apex. Humanware has intentionally disabled it, but I have found a way to get it back. If you want to use telnet follow these steps: 1. Make sure you have windows mobile device center or activesync installed on your pc. 2. Connect your apex to the pc, and set up a partnership in activesync or windows mobile device center. 3. You will need to download a program called mobile registry editor. I don't exactly remember where to get it, but you should find it with a google search. It will download as a zip file, which you will need to extract. 4. On your pc, run the mobile registry editor exe file. Once the program launches, you should be able to view your braillenote's registry on your pc. You can navigate it just like you would navigate the windows registry. 5. Navigate to the following registry key: linghkey local machineoucomoutelnet 6. Press tab to open this key, and from the list that should appear, select the IsEnabled option. 7. Press the applications key on your keyboard, and navigate to the "new" submenu. From this submenu, select "dword value." 8. For the value name, type IsEnabled, and for the key name, type 1.
9. Close mobile registry editor, and reset your apex.
To use telnet, open cmd on your pc, and do the following:
1. Type telnet, and press enter.
2. Type the letter o, and press enter.
3. Type the ip address of your apex, and press enter. Now, you should be in telnet.
