For those interested in obtaining the sound set I created for the bn, please
go to http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14332957/bn vocal sound set.zip.
I'm not sure if I put these directions in the previous message, but you should have a folder called windows on your flash disk. The bn thinks zip files are bookshare books. You should unpack the file to this windows folder. There is no password,
so just hit enter there, and then choose whether or not to delete the original book when the extraction finishes.
After that, you should do a reset with nothing held down. The bn will load in the sounds during that process. If you're using an mPower, you should know that in order for you to hear most of the new sounds (except the startup and chat sounds) you
must be using eloquence, otherwise the software simply refuses to play the new files, even though they get loaded, and you will hear the default sounds.
Speaking of horrible stunts HW has pulled on us mPower users, that is one of the ones that infuriates me. I would prefer not to use eloquence because it lags on our machines somewhat, and it's extremely difficult to get it to pronounce things
correctly. I hate that we have to use eloquence so we can hear any sounds we've changed, and the fact that the bn forces eloquence to load within the book reader. That is why I now use the book reader for nothing except Audible books, since the bn
doesn't need to speak for those. In any case, when eloquence reads in there, it's at an inconveniently low volume for some reason.
Anyway, as was stated in a previous message, in order to hear my sounds at a reasonable volume, it is necessary to change all the tone settings in the review voice menu to setting 6. I'm working to make the sound files louder (except the startup
sound, which is fine the way it is). For some reason, the bn dampens the volume of sound files when it uses them as sound effects. I'm not sure why this is, but I only realized it does that after I released the zip file to the bn user community.
I've heard from one or two people who have said that the file doesn't download on the apex for some reason. If this is indeed the case for you, please let me know off list, and I will send you a copy of the file. Just be aware that I'm not sure
of the procedure for sound installations on the apex, so maybe someone else can help you with this. Good luck.
