Sounds like you have enabled 8 dot braille on the apex. Doing this will cause this problem; turn it back to six dot in the keyboard settings and it should work. Understand that the settings for input do not affect what the iPhone expects, you must use the commands to change settings on the iPhone (space-g to toggle grade 2, space-2-3-6 to toggle 8 dot braille).
