Joseph
I've done resets and found a spongy braille display, but another soft reset has fixed this? Can you explain why sometimes there is a spongy display a little more please?
Peter

Hi,
Hmmm, I see. Just to make sure of one more thing before we make
a final decision: When you hear that sound, is it the normal
startup music or a beep? After that, does the braille display go
spongy or is there a message displayed on it, something like
"lincense invalid" or similar wording? And if a message is
displayed, have you tried press SPACE with O or SPACE with H to
see if BN goes to Options Menu or displays the help message,
respectively?
Here's the breakdown of likely scenarios:
* If you receive a message about licenses and if you were able to
get either help message or go to Options Menu, then a solution is
to download and install the license key for the KeySoft version
you were running because this occured.
* If the braille display goes spongy or does not display any
message, then it is likely a software fault that requires
troubleshooting with assistance of HW.
* If the below procedure does not solve this problem, then it is
likely that something bad has occured while starting KeySoft,
which requires a call to HW (I believe).
In this case, a likely "fix" would be doing an FDS reset (press
the reset button while holding down FDS keys). This clears
system files, which allows KeySoft to go back to cleanest state
with added extensions removed. If this reset works (if BN goes
to Main Menu with your keyboard and display working), then it was
just some software confusion; the issue is gone - you need to
reinstall KeySoft extensions you were using. If a message about
invalid license or something similar appears after this reset,
then its something going haywire with licenses and you need to
download and install the license for the KeySoft version you were
using. If the problem persists after this reset, then we might
need to do something else.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph

Yes there are two numbers that count up to about 60-61 before a
sound plays
and all of the braille keys disappear. Once this happens a Bing
sound plays
when you press a key.

Thanks for all the help,
Mary Anne

Hf,
I see. While that message is being displayed, on the right-most
two cells, do you see some kind of a percentage indicator? If it
shows two-digig value (without number sign) and just sits there
for more than a minute, then its something that we might have to
sort with HW tech support.
Cheers,
Joseph

The only message that displays is the "Start Keysoft" one . I
have tried
the reset holding it in for 5 seconds and also the reset while
holding in
the JKL keys and it still is not working. Any other
suggestions?
Thanks,
Mary Anne

Hi,
So you don't see KeySoft version and you're not placed in Main
Menu? Do you see any kind of message (apart from "starting
keysoft") when you perform a reset, something to the effect of
resets or something similar? If so, then its some disk error. If
you do see keysoft version message and keyboard is not
responding, then try as Alex suggested - press reset button for
more than five semonds until a beep is heard. If that reset
doesn't help, then try JKL reset (assuming you have a QT).
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] Apex Locked up

My Apex has locked up. Two days ago I had an alarm set for a
scheduled
appointment , I turned on the Apex to cancel the alarm and it
spoke Read the
Alarm but would not let me arrow down or press the enter key. I
tried
resetting it using the reset button and it beeped, then instead
of resetting
and announcing the Keysoft version, it gave me a bong noise, then
if a key
is pressed it gives a Bing sound instead of reading the letter.
That is the
only sound it will make. I tried removing the battery and
replacing it, it
went through the same process and will still only do the Bing
noise. I
removed the battery and left it out for almost 48 hours then
replaced it and
it is still doing the same thing. Any suggestions would be
greatly
appreciated.

Thanks
Mary Anne
