Hi Listers, thanks to Maurice for your responses but the outbound.att.com
did not solve the Apex’s inability to send outgoing email using A T & T.
I hope that Humanware will devote a good deal of effort to remedy this
situation.
In reading this latest BrailleNote digest, I found two other things to comment
on. First, I agree that it is a downgrade from the M-power that you can not
record FM radio directly on the Apex like you can do on the old M-Power.
Second, I also agree, and have said so for several years, that it is ashame
that we don’t have a voice chat program like skype available to use on the
Apex. I recall that Skype was available many years ago on the Pacmate because
of its more open source approach allowing use of at least some off the shelf
software unlike the M-Power or the Apex.
To be honest, at this point, with the incredible expense of proprietary
notetakers like the Apex, I truly don’t know how much more we can expect small
companies like HumanWare to continue putting funds in to developing upgrades
to Keysoft, let alone new hardware package designs. I hate to say it and I
hope I am wrong about this, but I feel like the Apex and BrailleSense may be
among the last of the proprietary notetakers we see. I think the trend is
towards I-Phones, Androids, and perhaps bluetooth braille displays paired with
those smart phones, though they are still expensive as well. Who knows, maybe
I feel this way because of my current discouragement in not being able to use
the Apex to send email. But in addition to that, the Apex also just isn’t
keeping up with changes in the web as I often have the web browser lock up only
to be fixed by a reset of the unit. I wish HunanWare would be more forthcoming
about these short comings and what is being done, if anything, to remedy these
deficiencies.
OK, enough from me already. Best regards, Jim
