Yes you need to contact Humanware because there is no free way to upgrade the Braillenote. You will have to pay a bit I think because you are going up a few versions. This is why I always keep my SMA up to date. The SMA costs about the same price as one upgrade would cost but you get two. SMA's can only be bought for future upgrades so you will have to pay full price for any lower versions.
