Hi folks,
Found a slightly quicker solution for the Unicode Table problem where an exception is given when attempting to assign a braille dot combination for displaying a character (note that this only involves Apex itself): Problem: When attempting to assign a dot combination to an extended character, KeySoft displays an exception message. Possible cause: Possible corruption and write protection of Unicode Tables and some computer braille table files. Solution: Deleting "current" version of Unicode Tables (and some custom computer braille tables in use) and restoring system default versions.
Procedure:
1. Using any method (File Browser or whereever file and folder structure can be viewed), go to Dictionaries folder on Flash Disk and locate the file named Unicode Tables.
2. Delete this file (if asked for confirmation, say yes).
3. Go to Options/Support Information Mode.
4. Press BACKSPACE with R (CTRL plus FN plus R on QT). Apex says, "restoring Flash Disk basic files." After a few moments (during which installation messages will be heard), the process will be completed with the message that the files were restored. Then try assigning a dot combination for display on the braille display. If you see the prompt, "character is displayed as nothing" or "character is displayed using dot combination," then the problem is fixed. If "exception" message is displayed, you may need to delete Unicode Tables file and other "custom" computer braille tables in use and restore default files again (note that you'll lose custom key/macro/ddplay assignment).
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph
