Good Day:
Below I paste the information you need. For reasons best known to
themselves, HumanWare have decided to keep all of the necessary information in
the KeySoft 8.0 FAQ. This is why no mention is made of the fact that the Apex
can play Audible Enhanced books starting with KeySoft 9.1. As an additional
note, you cannot open an audible file from the file manager. It must be done
through the Book Reader. Also note that, because of the fact that the Apex has
much more internal flash disc space then the mPower, you can authorize that
drive as well as any external cards, should you so wish. Anyway, below is the
relevant FAQ section.

Audible.com Books and Audible Manager
Q. Can the BrailleNote play recorded books from Audible.com?
A. Yes. However, you must first be a member of the Audible service and use the
Audible Manager program to authorize your BrailleNote to play the protected
Audible books.
Q. Can I try out the Audible service without subscribing?
A. Yes. HumanWare has a partnership with Audible that allows HumanWare
customers to try the Audible service free for 14 days including the download of
a free Audible book. To learn more visit: HYPERLINK
"http://www.audible.com/humanware" http://www.audible.com/humanware
You can cancel at any time during the trial period and still keep your
downloaded book.
Q. What is Audible Manager?
A. Audible Manager is a Windows software program that you download and install
from Audible.com when you become an Audible member. Audible Manager is then
used to activate your BrailleNote to enable it to play Audible books. Audible
Manager will also keep a list of your downloaded Audible books and allow you to
play them on your computer and transfer them to your BrailleNote. Audible
Manager runs on Windows 2000, XP, and Vista. It does not run on Windows 98 or
ME.
Q. Can I listen to a sample Audible book before subscribing?
A. Yes. Visit: HYPERLINK "http://www.audible.com/humanware"
http://www.audible.com/humanware to sign up for a free 14-day trial of Audible
including a free book download and the Audible Manager software. You may keep
the book if you decide not to subscribe to Audible.
There are also excerpts of Audible content on our Web site at HYPERLINK
"http://hcamarketing.cmail2.com/t/y/l/klhkdt/yhdyitlli/j"
www.humanware.com/braillenote_support . Sample books do not need authorization
through the Audible Manager. You will need to create a folder called “Audible”
in your selected memory. We recommend you use a card reader and use Windows
Explorer to copy the .aa Audible book files to the Audible folder on your
storage card.
Q. How do I activate my BrailleNote with Audible Manager?
A. First, be sure you have version 5.5.0.4 or higher of Audible Manager, and
Microsoft ActiveSync (Windows XP or earlier), or windows Mobile Device Center,
Windows Vista.) If you are an existing Audible customer, you can download the
latest version of Audible Manager from
HYPERLINK "http://download.audible.com/AM50/ActiveSetupN.exe"

When Install Shield asks you to choose a player device, you may choose
‘Humanware BrailleNote’. Alternatively, you can also choose "No mobile Device"
during the installation because you can also add the Humanware BrailleNote
device later from Audible Manager.
Once it is installed, be sure to remain connected to the Internet and run
Audible Manager. With Audible Manager running you are now ready to activate
your BrailleNote's storage card to play Audible books. Follow these steps:
Insert the storage card into the BrailleNote. Power off your BrailleNote and
connect it to your computer using the provided USB cable. Then power the
BrailleNote back on. You should hear a rising chiming sound as the BrailleNote
is recognized by the PC. Important: When using Audible Manager, you must
connect the BrailleNote. You cannot activate your storage card in a card reader.
In Audible Manager, press Alt+D to open the Device pull down menu.
If you did not specify the ‘Humanware BrailleNote’ during Audible Manager
installation, then choose the Add New Device option.
You will then be asked to connect to the Internet so Audible Manager can update
necessary components. Select the YES button to proceed.
Audible Manager will then present a list of possible devices. Arrow down the
list to Humanware BrailleNote and select it. Then tab to the OK button and
activate it
Audible Manager will download the plug-in for the BrailleNote and then ask to
close Audible Manager to install the plug-in on your computer. Select the OK
button.
Audible Manager will then close and reopen.
Once open, press the F6 key to select the mobile device that Audible Manager
should scan for content, and arrow to the Humanware Braille Notes option. If
“Humanware BrailleNote” is not an option, press the f5 key to refresh the list
of devices.
Right-click and select properties from the drop down menu, or alternatively
press Control Shift D to open the device properties.
Tab to the Storage selection combo box and arrow to the storage card you would
like to activate, where you plan on storing your future Audible Books.
Tab to the OK button.
Again open the Device menu and choose the option to activate your device.
Audible Manager will prompt you to enter your Audible Username and password.
Then press the OK button to activate your BrailleNote's storage card.
Note that Audible refers to the BrailleNote device as Humanwre BrailleNote.
Please do not select ‘Humanware Players’ as this refers to the Victor Reader
Stream and the ClassMate.
After you press OK, the storage card should become activated. You can verify
this as there will be a folder named Audible on your storage card and a file
named AudibleActivation.sys in that folder. Note that this is a system file and
will not appear unless your Windows folder options are set to show hidden
system files. However, you do not need to change your folder options as this
will not affect use of Audible. If the Audible folder is created then likely
the Activation file is there.
Q. Can I use more than one storage card for Audible books on the BrailleNote?
A. Yes. If you need to use a second storage card for Audible, simply repeat the
procedure listed above or create an Audible folder on the second card and copy
the AudibleActivation.sys file to it.
Q. After activating my BrailleNote, how do I transfer Audible books to it?
A. You may use Audible Manager with the BrailleNote connected to transfer your
Audible books to the BrailleNote. An easy way to do this is to arrow down to
the book you want in the Audible Manager library list. Then press the
applications key on your keyboard and from the resulting context menu, select
the "Add to Humanware BrailleNote". Audible Manager will place the Audible book
.aa file in the Audible folder of the storage card.
Instead of transferring books with Audible Manager, you may also place your
storage card into a card reader and use Windows Explorer to copy the .aa
Audible book files from the Audible download folder to the Audible folder. The
default Audible download folder is:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Audible\Downloads
Or, if you updated an older version of Audible Manager it may be:
C:\Program Files\Audible\Programs\Downloads
You cannot create separate subfolders in Audible for each book.
Q. Which Audible formats are supported on the BrailleNote?
A. Audible format 4 books should be downloaded for use on the BrailleNote.
Q. After resetting my BrailleNote I am unable to play Audible content.
A. If a 4 5 6 reset (J K L on QT models) was done for diagnostic or
troubleshooting purposes you may need to reactivate using the Audible Manager
software.
Q. Is there a limit to the number of devices or storage cards I can activate
for use with the Audible service?
A. Audible allows customers to activate up to 8 different devices per account,
allowing someone to potentially activate a BrailleNote, a Victor Reader Stream,
and an Apple iPod all for use with content purchased with the same Audible user
account. Note that the BrailleNote may only be activated for one Audible user
account at a time.
Education never ends. It is a series of lessons, with the greatest for the last.
