A warm welcome to the List, Dr. Behler. You'll find a range of people posting stuff on here. Some are as new to the world of the BrailleNote as you, some are more experienced, still others are like me (I've had my BrailleNote now for almost seven years), and there are probably people on this list who are more tech-savvy than I. So whatever your questions will be, I'm sure there will almost always be an answer. If not, one of us either finds an ingenious solution pretty fast, or we start clammoring for new features, which sometimes appear in later software versions, and other times not. As for your questions possibly being a burden on the rest of us, please don't hesitate to ask as many or make them as detailed as you need to to make yourself understood. The user guide is a good resource, but it's sometimes a little vague in areas. I think I can safely say that we will try to be clear when we attempt to assist you. The List is here for all of us, newbies and adepts alike. Even the more experienced of us have learned something new on occasion thanks to a question being asked that noone had even considered before. For example, the question of whether there is hidden stuff on our machines. Another one of our members discovered a cleverly hidden blind-friendly version of the game Tetris. To get to it, one only has to go to the utilities menu, choose the "enter a new product key" option, type in the word "playtime", and hit enter. This invokes the game. Just so you know, there are a couple abbreviations we like to use on the List. The letters "bn" stand for "BrailleNote", which generally means any notetaker in the family, any combination of the presence or lack of a braille display, braille or a querty keyboard. Typing bn saves us the need to type out the whole word. The other abbreviation is the letters "ks", usually followed by a number, which means a version of Keysoft. For example, KS7.5 would be Keysoft version 7.5. You don't have to use these abbreviations if you prefer to type the actual words, but you'll now know what they mean when you come across them in our posts.
As I said before, welcome. We look forward to answering your questions and
commenting on any observations you may have.
P S. When asking a question, it's a good idea to let the List know what kind of bn you're using, and what ks version. Also, you might consider taking a look at and/or adding the website listed in my signature to your favorites in the web browser. It has been created by a group of fellow Listers (members of this list). I sometimes contribute to its wealth of information. It's an excellent resource for the bn users community, and best of all, it loads fast on these machines.
