Hi. all.
Although I won't be able to attend the NFB convention this summer, here are
a few ideas that I hope those who do attend can communicate to Humanware
regarding problems or weaknesses with the Braille Note Apex.
1. There needs to be a concerted effort on the part of Humanware to make
dot d o c x files directly accessible. In my line of work, I get more and
more of these, as people move to Word 2007 and 2010, as well as the Windows
7 operating system. Quite simply, Humanware is going to have to address
this issue in order to remain competitive with the mmakers of the Braille
Sense and other note-taking devices.
2. Humanware must make its key mail program for accessing e-mail more user
friendly, and less susseptible to crashes and other related problems.
and
3. I have found the "getting started" tutorial that came with my Braille
Note Apex to lack sufficient detail in a number of key areas. These include
basic word processing, file management, and e-mail and internet access. If
I had not had the introductory training that I experienced earlier, I am
certain that I would have been much more lost and overwhelmed with the
Braille Note learning curve than I am currently.
As a very new user of the Braille Note Apex, I am hesitant to bring up
concerns like this, since I readily admit that I might be missing things as
I am working with the device here, but the concerns seem to be consistent
with my knowledge and/or experience, at least so far.
If I am out of line with these observations, feel free to correct the errors
of my ways. On the other hand, if these concerns are felt to be valid,
please encourage Humanware to address them in a timely and effective manner
through future software upgrades, etc..
Thanks for listening!
