You might have been thinking of so-called "multilingual user
inserface" or MUI. These require lookup tables for prompts and
input tables to allow OS's and programs to print its user
interface in different languages. mPower doesn't have this due
to flash memory limitations (mPower has 64 MB of Flash ROM),
whereas Apex does have facilities for this, as evidenced by three
things: larger ROM ipace, presence of MUI tables and KeySoft UI
language is based on language license (with English and French
being active ones). So if you examine hidden ROM image files for
Apex, you'll notice two hwp files named "docs_en.hwp" and
"docs_fr.hwp", corresponding to system documents and files for
English and French licenses, respectively.
For others: the feature that Marvin describes is multilingual
document input/output support, which is quite different from UI
translation functionality found on modern OS's such as Windows 7
and Mac OSX. For more information on MUI, have a look at

A followup to my question about switching languages. Maybe
there's a way to install language-specific versions of keysoft so
that the prompts and menus and stuff can be switched on the fly?
If this is what I'd have to do, does anyone know where I
could go to find some sort of coexisting keysoft installation
packs or something. Or are all supported prompts and menus and
stuff all in a single keysoft installation. I hope this is the
case, and there's a way to get things to switch relatively
easily.
I suppose this whole language switch thing isn't really a vital
issue for me, but I've been dying of curiosity ever since I
installed keysoft version 8 about a year ago. Sorry if this
seems a waste of time to some of you, but I love exploring
everything about a piece of software, of which keysoft is a
treasure of an example. When I originally started learning how
to build web page files and work with forms and the like, I was
going to use that knowledge on computers, but I very quickly
realized that the bn has its own browser. I thought to myself,
"If the bn can access the web and access htm files stored on one
of its drives, what about making web pages for it to read? If
this works, I can make little applications that would be
useful and neat at the same time." Out of my success on getting
my bn to load the first page I ever tried creating rose my best
utility yet - the playlist shuffler. My point is, maybe I can
get my utilities translated into the other languages the bn
supports. That might increase the user base, and it would also
pave the way for, perhaps, developing an international version of
the bn users site. Just a thought. I think it would be cool if
other groups of people who speak the other bn languages
developed versions of that site for their communities, and thus
the global bn user community as a whole would benefit.
