Hi,
Okay, let's tackle one question at a time:
* Braille display connectivity: only through bluetooth on
supported devices.
* Supported devices: iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, iPod Touch third and
fourth generation (excluding 8 GB third gen), iPad (all
generations). The iPhone is a smartphone (you need a data plan
to use it), an iPad is a tablet computer and iPod Touch is a
thinner iPhone without phone and cellular data functionality.
* iOS devices: iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad.
* iOS compatibility with braille displays: iOS 4 and above
(including 5 series).
* Apex being a synthesizer: cannot be done, as there is not even
"remote synthesizer" module.
* Apex speaking when VoiceOver is off or on other iDevices
(non-supported ones): No.
* Charging iDevice using iOS: No (regardless of use of AC power
or not) because of not enough power.
* Transfering music using only Apex: No; requires iTunes.
Possible questions (mostly to clarify future questions that could
come up):
* Can iTunes be implemented on KeySoft: Not at all. First,
there's no SDK, and second, it'll be Apple's responsibility to
specify connection and transier protocol to HW.
* iOS devices and USB braille display mode: No.
* Writing programs for iOS devices on Apex and transfering it:
Impossible. You cannot run Xcode on BN, there's no ARM compiler
for KeySoft, no way of transfering files (there is a program that
you need to install on the iOS devices that lets you transfer
files via wireless means) and you need to pay a fee to really
test your product on iOS. iOS, like Macs, require Objective-C
compiler taylored specifically for ARM processors.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] iDevices and Apex
Hi. I am hoping to get some kind of iDevice soon. I don't know
if
it will be an iPod touch or an iPhone or what? I am trying to
figure out which one to get? I have some questions regarding
iDevices and my Apex bt with the 32 cell display running keysoft
9.1. Can all iDevices be used with the braille terminal on the
Apex or just some of them? If just some of them, then which ones
can and can not be used? Which generations of iDevices will and
will not work with the braille terminal on the Apex? 1, 2, 3, 4
and so on? In terms of iPods, Will only the iPod touch work with
the braille terminal on the Apex or will the iPod classic and
iPod mini and other iPods work as well? Do all iDevices come with
voiceover or just some of them? If just some, Then which ones? If
an iDevice does not have voiceover or voiceover is turned off,
will keynote gold speech on the Apex speak for the iDevice? Can
you use the Apex to turn on voiceover on the iDevice? Do all
iDevices have blue tooth or only some of them? If only some, Then
which ones? Can you use the braille terminal with a usb cord from
the iDevice to the Apex or does it need to be a blue tooth
connection? Does the iDevice need to be running ios 5 like in the
podcasts about iDevices and the apex, Or will any version of ios
work? Will the Apex charge the iDevice? If it will, Then does it
need to have the ac adapter on or can it charge the iDevice with
its battery? Finally, Because iTunes does not work on the Apex,
How do you use the Apex to put music on the iDevice? Thank you
for taking the time to read this long email.
