Hi Allison,

I don't want to join this thread and besides, Jenine Stanley has expressed my
opinions already in her post, brilliantly nailing the part about the 5%
discount which I think is not being an amount one should die for, heroically or
otherwise. I'm replying to this one because you said you asked two questions
that didn't get answered. I'm sending a CC of this to you privately just in
case you've left already. I'm posting my reply anyway for those who would be
interested.

First, I don't know which two questions you're referring to exactly. Looking
at my bulging Inbox, the two most recent questions I've seen you asked were
about getting the BN to display an e-mail message in grade 2 when you open it,
which it should do automatically but for some reason on some units (not mine
though), it doesn't; and, the question about not getting the prompt to review
the document options for a text document foreign to Keysoft. If these aren't
what you mean, let me know.

I've seen some replies to the first question. I remember some people saying
that you could fix it by pressing SPACE with dot 4, and then moving back to the
top of the message with SPACE with dot 1 or the PREVIOUS thumb key. Peggy and
Judy said cycling through the display modes work. Like I said, this problem
doesn't really happen to my unit, except just once maybe, I don't quite
remember now, and I think I pressed SPACE with G for continuous reading mode,
stopped it with ENTER with BACKSPACE, and then returned to the top of the
message with SPACE with L. I'm sure the other suggestions are better. Does
this happen with the very first message in the Inbox? Maybe that's why I don't
experience it all the time because I hardly have a day with an empty Inbox
before downloading messages. You're post came in as the 763rd e-mail, in my
Inbox alone, and yes, that has been decreased from 800+ already. But anyway, I
digressed.

As for your second question, to which I have not seen a reply yet, there is no
way to get rid of that prompt unless you convert the foreign text document to a
Keyword type text file, or if you want it in contracted Braille, then a Keyword
type Braille document. The resulting formatting will not be exactly the same
but it's dandy enough to let you continue reading happily. Just don't
print/emboss it without re-formatting first. Now, in order for you to quickly
pass that prompt, when you know the file is foreign to Keysoft (a good
indication is that a file extension is displayed, because .kwt and .kwb files
which are home to Keysoft appear without those extensions), press ENTER twice.
You see, the default answer to the prompt, "Review previous options?" is NO so
pressing ENTER twice to open the document will take you directly to the place
where you left off. On the other hand, and this is again an undocumented
command as far as I know, when you modify a document foreign to
Keysoft (.brf, .txt, .doc, .rtf just to name the most common), you would get
the prompt, "Document has been modified, save as a Keyword document?", and
that's what you can suppress or do away with. This was not available in
earlier versions as far as I can remember, but in version 5, if you check the
context-sensitive help at that point, one command given is to type S in order
to save your changes and suppress that prompt so you don't have to get it every
time you exit a file that you've modified.

I hope this helps and has eased some of your frustrations about the list.
Yeah, you can always call tech support for a question, but remember that people
on this list have used their BrailleNotes under different circumstances and
with varying levels of need, experience and expertise, even found work-arounds
to bugs that tech support people will not know about till they read it from
posts on this list. I'm not saying this to disparage PDI or PDH tech support.
They're smart people and offer valuable help, too, that users like us may not
learn even from experience or experiments, but being on this list and getting
in touch with tech support is like getting the best out of two sets of
resources. I do understand your concern though, but this isn't really the
first time people had gotten upset out here, I know you've been around for
quite some time already and have seen the other flame fests. If you can stick
around a little longer, you'll see that thread will take its course
 and die a natural death.

HTH,
Roselle
