Hi Brenda and list: When you plug the BrailleNote in, it is powered directly from the AC source. Therefore, your BrailleNote will always work no matter what the battery status is.
Having said this, you need to be aware that the BrailleNote would do the equivalent of a 456 reset every time you switched the machine on if the battery was no longer usable.
