In response to my question re carrying cases, I have seen much discussion concerning problems caused by the straps on the case itself. I have not seen the latest case. But, on the first two, (leather one with plate and soft pack) the straps could be detached from the case. I tend to carry things that fasten around my waist since shoulder carrying is difficult. So, with the leather case with the plate, I simply took off teh original shoulder strap and had one adapted so that I could carry the unit on my waist. I got some very stirdy straps from rei. But, if you do not live in an area serviced by that specific company, you could most likely go to any major sporting goods store that sells climbing gear. They would most likely have materials you could use to custom make your own strap. Hope this post helps some of you with strap concerns.
