Hello List, Yes, it's so nice to hear that some are having such positive
experiences using gps. Yes, to be able to know with certainty the street
you're on and even the number of the nearest house, is truly wonderful.
Unfortunately, there are also negative factors. Routes over a distance, at
least here in the UK, are almost unusable and have little bearing on reality,
Whole towns appear to possess no streets at all and many house numbers are not
recognised; a definite disadvantage when trying to find your way to an address.
As for the points of interest; in my area of the UK anyway, it's sadly
lacking. It's good however, that one can build-up one's own pointsof-interest
section, for, though our area is littered with eating-places, the nearest
reported is many miles distant. It contains a vast number of "gas stations",
garages or filling-stations to we British, a high proportion of which have been
closed for some time. Incidentally, one might be forgiven for thinking that
information on a UK based map, might have used UK terminology; I can imagine
the out-cry if the reverse was true. However, we are of course all adaptable.
Yes, of course the system is a great step forward; after all it is the first,
but if progress is to be made, we must not hide its lamentable weaknesses in
certain areas. Here's to its great success and rapid development. Don Cooper.
