Dear List, I would like to discuss a problem and make a suggestion.
When reading text documents, the writer sometimes include symbols such as the registered trademark sign, the copyright sign and other things like unicode characters. The braille display on my older BN will show a blank space when these characters occur and my new BN will show an asterisk. When I route the cursor to see what these characters are supposed to be, the display on both units will show a computer dollar sign ch and the character will be described. Since the older translation software didn't translate these characters, Duxbury can't be to blame. I suggest that instead of showing special symbols and unicode characters using codes and descriptions, translate them according to the braille rules. For example, the copyright sign is supposed to be brailled (c) and the registered trademark is supposed to be brailled as (r). I'm not really up on all the rules for all of the unicode characters and special symbols, but you get my idea. I would also like to be able to turn the codes on or off. For example, once I've added codes for translating text into computer braille or grade 1, I'd like to be able to hide these codes from my view so I can read the document smoothly without seeing the codes.
