Hi, a braillenote user I've spoken with is having difficulty sending
messages using earthlink; The user says earthlink cannot help as the
techies there don't understand the braillenote, nor do they support CE.
The email downloads fine, but the difficulty is in the sending; this
user has no pc to experiment. My suspicion is that this is an earthlink
problem; can someone help direct what we need to say to earthlink so
the techies may understand that the problem may ly in the sending from
this user's ip?

Hi Jim, I think the BrailleNote will have to plead not guilty on this
one
<smile>. Your provider's mail server is using a form of authentication
which is designed to thwart spamming. What happens is that when you
download e-mail, the mail server notes the IP (Internet protocol)
address
you are using at that time. This address will normally be different each

time you log on with a dial-up connection. Because you need to know your

own password to clear your e-mail, the server then validates your IP
address for a finite period as being legitimate, and therefore will
allow
you to send mail from it. The upshot of this form of authentication is
that if you log on and send mail before you receive it, the provider has

not authenticated you so will not allow you to send e-mail.

There are alternative methods your provider might use, such as SMTP
authentication, but this is a matter to take up with your provider.
