Sharon,

Before copying files from your Braille Lite to the BN, make sure text documents
have the .txt extension, while Braille documents have the .brf extension. When
you open such files in the BN, you will be asked if you wish to review the
options. Type Y for yes.
The first item asks If the document is text or Braille. Type T or B
respectively. If you typed T for text, which you should for .txt files, the
next option will ask if you want to translate the file to Braille. If you
really want your .txt files to be translated to Braille upon opening, you can
type Y for yes (another option is to use the Translate File option under the
Translation Menu in the File Manager).

However, doing this will thus require that you edit (add/change) the file by
typing in grade 2 Braille. Is that what you really want, or do you just want
it to be displayed in computer Braille? If the latter, then you do not need to
have it translated to Braille. Just open the file by pressing ENTER twice on
it from the file list, or if you're already in the document options, then exit
with SPACE with E (ESCAPE).
>From within the document, and only from within the document, press SPACE with
>O (FUNCTION with O), type B, and space through the items there till you hear
>or read, "Preferred reading grade". Make sure this is set to grade 2, the
>default. If not, type B and hit ENTER. The option after that is for the text
>document reading grade. Make sure it is set to the default setting called
>"Preferred Reading Grade". If not, type P and hit ENTER. Exit from there by
>pressing SPACE with E (ESCAPE) and you'll be back in the file.

For your reference as a new user, you can read about the options reviewed upon
opening plain text and plain Braille files in section 3.20. The sections
discussing the settings for Preferred Reading Grade and Text Document Reading
Grade are 5.4.6 and 5.4.7 respectively. The section on the Translate File
option is 13.17.7. It's a good idea to read up to chapter 7 first, before
exploring Keysoft territories that are still unknown to you.

HTH,
Roselle
