DEar Paul, There are two kinds of quote keys. The shift apostrophe is the double quote. That quote is used when you are writing a dialog and one person is speaking to another.
The single quote key is the one next to the space bar. A singl quote is used when you are writing a dialog where a person who is talking reads something from an article written by a different person. Both the single quote and the double quote are necessary when writing english. I hope this is understandable.
