Hi,

I'm so excited! it's after midnight here it just became saturday morning and I
just downloaded my first mp3 file! It played perfectly! I downloaded it to my
32mb storage card that originally had my keysoft for windows ce installation
software on it. I put that on the desktop computer awhile ago. anyway, I went
and downloaded a small one minute long mp3 from acbradio.org

the main menu technology show. And it played great! It was only a minute in
length, but on monday when I have more time I'm going to download a bigger
file. I only have 29mb left on the storage card. I have some tips for you mp3
makers though. If you're going to make mp3s to be played on your PDA's, E.G.
braille notes. I recommend the following settings and encoding setting...
22hertz 24kbps, mono or below. That keeps the mp3s nice and small for
downloading. If you encore them at the normal 44hertz 128kbps stereo you don't
need that. all of main menus shows are recorded at 22hertz and 24kbps mono, not
stereo. And now that I discovered that, I think a 512 microdrive will suit me
fine. I don't think that I really need 5gigs of storage for the braille note.
So, for those who want to download main menu here's how to do it using the
braille note qt, 32 cell model with keysoft 5 and the browser...
1. go to http://www.acbradio.org
2. click the visit our on-demand section.
3. click the show you want, we'll use main menu for this example.
4. a file will come up with a number of web addresses or urls. press control s
to save these... someone can give the bt commands cause I don't know them.
make sure to rename the file's extension from .m3u to .txt
5. now open this file in keyword.
copy the url of an mp3 you want from the file... the whole thing, even the .mp3
part, don't leave anything out.
6. now go back to the browser.
7. press control v to paste. you'll probably hear nothing, but trust me, it
should be or have been pasted.
now press enter and the download manager should come up, tell it to save to
either the pcmcia or compact flash card slot whichever you are using or the
flash disk. Once downloaded play the mp3. On monday, I'm going to download that
interview about the phone with the talkX software on it. I can't wait to hear
that one! Since mp3s for the braille note should only be 22hertz 24kbps mono
instead of 44hertz 128kbps stereo, I think a 512mb card will do me fine. so,
are they cheaper than the 1gig cards?
and can I still get them at gooddealpc.com
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
And I just spell-checked my first email. Did you know that the competition will
be adding multilingual next year while pulsedata has it out? The competition
has games that cannot be used by jaws for windows ce. I like the braille note
because I don't have to deal with the graphical interface and also its nice to
know that it won't or generally won't crash and a reset can fix it usually. Who
knows what would happen if you'd install any old thing onto the pacmate. It may
crash, or it may not be accessible.
